Legal advice

The Disability Law Service provides free legal advice to people with disabilities and their carers to ensure that they have access to their rights and justice. They advise on community care, employment, housing and welfare benefits.

You can access the service by phone (0207 791 9800) or by email:

  • benefits@dls.org.uk
  • housing@dls.org.uk
  • advice@dls.org.uk (for advice on community care, employment or discrimination)

A range of fact sheets is also available on the Disability Law Service website.

Blue badges

  • Apply through your local council (and you do not need to be a driver)
  • You may qualify automatically if you get:
  • the higher mobility rate of PIP or DLA, or
  • 10 points for overwhelming psychological distress under “planning and following journeys”
  • It usually costs up to £10, and it can take up to three months to come through

Disability rights

Employment advice

We work with the Association of Disabled Professionals (ADP), a disabled-led organisation that understands EDS and can give practical employment advice, including workplace adjustments and routes like Access to Work.

You can visit their website here

General disability information

The links below provide general information on disability, for example, disability rights, grants for equipment and advice for disabled students.

Support groups

We have over 100 support groups, online and in person, offering a safe and friendly space to meet others and learn from each other. Each group also has a closed regional Facebook group for members.

All groups are run by volunteer Area Coordinators who organise meetings across the UK. They come from all walks of life, including people living with EDS and people who care for someone with it. We are deeply grateful to our volunteers, and to our funders who help cover meeting costs, volunteer training and more.
