Soma

Hi, I’m Soma.

I’ve lived with some symptoms of EDS for as long as I can remember, but have gained significantly more symptoms over the last 6 years and I was recently diagnosed, which has helped me make sense of my experiences and start to implement the changes I’ve needed to support myself.

Over the past 6 years, I’ve worked at a specialist further education college for young people, supporting learners with complex physical disabilities, acquired brain injuries, and associated learning difficulties. Before moving into my care and then  education role  at this college, I have  worked in various other roles; including circus performance and animal care at a sanctuary. These experiences have shaped how I communicate, care and relate to others.

Recently, I had to change to a new role within the college, bringing my hours down to 16 hours per week, to work as a receptionist in customer services  and I still work with  students attending work experience.

Out of work I love writing, reading, arts and crafts, and human behaviour and psychology. I also have a personal mission to build strength around my joints to help manage my symptoms. This is something I am currently looking into and would love to pass on information that may help others.
