Partnership Stories

Some of our most valuable partnerships have started with a personal connection. In some cases, an employee has put EDS UK forward to their company. In others, a business has chosen to support us through fundraising, donated prizes, or helped us reach the right audience.

Green People has been pioneering organic personal care products since 1997 and was instrumental in founding the first standards in natural and organic cosmetics.

Green People has been a valued partner of EDS UK for many years, supporting our work in a range of meaningful ways. As well as helping to raise awareness of EDS and HSD, they have donated a percentage of their annual profits, contributed raffle prizes, and taken part in our annual Dazzle Walk fundraising event. Here, they explain why they chose to partner with EDS UK:

“We started working with EDS UK shortly after our founder’s daughter, Alexandra Kay, was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.

“Determined to help others with a similar fate, Alexandra paired her personal experience of seeking comfort from natural wellness techniques with her mother’s expertise in essential oils and created our range of natural wellbeing products which help give balance back to those in need of comfort, calm and optimism.

“We all wanted to help Alexandra with her campaign to give back to the charity that had helped her to understand and manage her EDS symptoms, and with EDS UK being the only UK charity to offer support to people touched by any type of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, we knew we had to do more.

“We hope to raise awareness of the incredible work that EDS UK does to ensure that every person with EDS has access to the appropriate medical services and care and nobody is left to fight on their own.”

When employees at RGA UK Services Limited were invited to nominate a Charity of the Year partner, Amy Champion chose EDS UK, because it had deep personal significance following her diagnosis with Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS) after 29 years of misdiagnosis.

During a four minute presentation to colleagues across the UK, Amy began by asking, “Looking at me today, would you say I’m unwell?” When no one raised their hand, it highlighted the reality of living with an invisible condition. Using paint as a visual representation of hidden symptoms, the presentation helped make the invisible visible and raised awareness of hEDS and related conditions.

EDS UK provided support throughout the nomination process, offering guidance whilst allowing Amy to share her story in her own way.

EDS UK was delighted to receive a donation of £3,000 as a finalist and, more importantly, hundreds of colleagues left with a greater understanding of invisible disabilities and the importance of supporting those living with them.

EDS UK is proud to be partnering with Symprove, a UK gut health company, on a pioneering research study exploring the impact of a gut microbiome supplement in people with Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) and Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders (HSD).

The partnership began when Dr Asma Fikree, Consultant Neurogastroenterologist at University College Hospital, approached EDS UK with an opportunity to support research into the relationship between gut health and EDS and HSD. Recognising the significant impact that gastrointestinal symptoms can have on people living with these conditions, EDS UK was keen to help facilitate a study that could contribute valuable evidence and improve understanding in an under-researched area.

Working alongside Dr Fikree and Symprove, EDS UK helped connect the research team with our community and support recruitment for a UK-wide, 12-week study. The research is investigating the impact of Symprove’s water-based live bacteria supplement in people with EDS and HSD – the first study of its kind in this population.

The response from our community was extraordinary. Interest far exceeded expectations, and recruitment was oversubscribed, leading to applications closing early. This overwhelming demand demonstrated both the community’s willingness to engage in research and the urgent need for greater understanding of gastrointestinal symptoms and symptom management in EDS and HSD.

As part of the partnership, EDS UK has supported participant recruitment and engagement, helping ensure that people with lived experience are represented in research that could ultimately shape future approaches to care and symptom management.

The study is currently ongoing, with results expected in late 2026. We look forward to sharing the findings with our community and continuing to build partnerships that advance research, increase understanding and improve the lives of people living with EDS and HSD.
